Dr. Jolene DeCoste
Dr. DeCoste was born and raised in Ohio, Antigonish County. She obtained her Honours B.Sc. in Microbiology from The University of Waterloo and subsequently worked with Health Canada in Guelph, ON while completing her Doctor of Optometry, also from UW, in 2002. Her training included externships at St. Marthas Department of Ophthalmology and mission work in rural Oxaca County, Mexico. Upon completion of her training, she and her husband moved back to Antigonish to service the area's eye care needs.
Dr. DeCoste practiced in New Glasgow before opening her solo practice in Antigonish in 2004 in conjunction with her optician husband Brad. They both recognized the lack of full-time optometric eye care in their community and were pleased to have the opportunity to service their community in that respect. Suffice it to say that there is a lot of eye talk at the DeCoste dinner table!
Besides seeing patients, Dr. DeCoste also gives back to her profession by previously serving as a Council member on the Nova Scotia Association of Optometrists and also volunteering with the Nova Scotia College of Optometrists. She is also a regular assessor at the administration of the National Board Exams responsible for licensure of optometry graduates.
When not involved in eye-related matters, Dr. DeCoste is most often found with her litter of children (four, to be exact) or at the race track with the office race car that is driven by her husband Brad. The DeCoste family also runs their family farm, Cambridge Acres, in their spare (wink, wink) time.
