Dr. Jessica Bylsma was born and raised in Red Deer, Alberta. She then moved to Calgary, Alberta and finished her Bachelor of Science in Biology at the University of Calgary in 2013. She spent the next four years in Waterloo, Ontario where she graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Doctor of Optometry degree in 2017. Dr. Bylsma was actively involved in the student society during her time at the University of Waterloo and received the L.M. Newell Clinical Optometry Award for her clinical proficiency. She enjoyed volunteering for mobile eye clinics that would visit nursing homes in Calgary to provide full ocular health exams to the residents. In the summer of 2015, she was lucky enough to go on a trip of a lifetime to provide ocular health exams to patients without access to eye care in Lima, Peru.
Dr. Bylsma completed an externship in ocular disease and therapeutics in Pinellas Park, Florida. She has a special interest in contact lenses and dry eye management.
Outside of work, Dr. Bylsma enjoys fishing, yoga, baking and trying new recipes while spending time with her fiancé here in Antigonish.
